Amelia Island Cooking School - Ritz Carlton
In its quarterly two-day cooking schools, The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island offers guests the opportunity to master new culinary techniques, experience new tastes and work alongside award-winning chefs in the kitchen of its AAA Five Diamond restaurant, Salt. The cooking schools, appropriate for both novice and experienced cooks, are limited in size, giving the chefs the ability to tailor the class to the needs of the students and to provide personalized instruction.
The classes begin with coffee and pastries in the elegant, contemporary restaurant each morning. The first day features a “behind the scenes” tour of the resort’s kitchens, including the pastry shop, butcher shop and garde manger kitchen which gives the participants a glimpse into the inner workings of a 443-room resort and an understanding of the various responsibilities of the 45 member culinary team. The students then work with the chef to prepare all the elements of a four-course luncheon. The lunch is served family style and paired with a selection of fine wines.
On the second day, students build on their new skills as they prepare a complete gourmet feast and dine again with the chef. The cooking school concludes with the presentation of diplomas and exchange of phone numbers among new friends.
The cooking schools, which always feature contemporary classics and emphasizing on seasonal cuisine, have become a popular tradition at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. Upcoming schools include: April 4 & 5; July 25 & 26; October 3 & 4 and December 5 & 6. The April session sold out early in 2006, but spaces are available in the other classes.
The Cooking School Package includes coastal view room accommodations for two nights, the two-day cooking school, coffee and pastries each morning, champagne-du-jour, lunch with the chef each day, luncheon wine presentation and tastings, a Ritz-Carlton apron and recipes.
