Kids Can Cook

Kids Can Cook is a fun, educational afterschool program for middle school children in Boston that teaches critical life skills in a nurturing environment through the world of cooking. Children attend weekly classes taught by culinary professionals to foster self-esteem, teamwork, and confidence.

KCC was founded in 1998 as the first program of the Urban Culinary Foundation, a privately funded organization created to promote cooking classes in urban areas. KCC co-founders Dan Mathieu and Donna Montgomery recognized the need for quality tuition-free after-school activities in their South Boston community and set out to establish a hands-on culinary arts program for neighborhood youth. What started out as a single cooking class with eight students at the Paraclete Center in South Boston, has become Kids Can Cook, an innovative after-school program serving more than 100 students each year.

Our Program

Classes meet for two hours a week for eight weeks at our new KCC facility and at schools and education centers throughout Boston's neighborhoods.

There are three levels of curriculum:
Level I: Beginner
Level II: Intermediate
Level III: Advanced
