Creating Your Own Bûche de Noël
Saturday, December 1; 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Participation; $50.00
Scott Rosenbaum
The French believed that burning a log in the home from Christmas to New Year’s Day would
bring good luck. Baking a Bûche de Noël, a “yule log” Christmas cake, is an extended part of this
tradition. The cake, a sheet of genoise that is spread with flavored buttercream, gets rolled into a
log shape and covered with more buttercream. The surface is ridged to resemble the bark of a log,
and, as in our case, is garnished with meringue “mushrooms”. Cakes like this can run a pretty
penny. Why not spend that money and learn how to make your own yule logs and create a whole
new holiday tradition for your family?!
