On Halloween night Ghosts and Goblins will rule your party when you prepare a showpiece Halloween cake. Join the Mistress of Halloween Pastries Judy Deutsch as she shows you how to make this heartstopping showcase cake. Four layers of spice cake filling and covered icing and dancing gingerbread ghouls and goblins your guest will talk about this cake for years!

For the past 25 years, Judy has thrown themed Halloween parties at home that were recently written up in the Chicago Tribune and syndicated nationally. Her dream is to one day open a tea room or a bed and breakfast.

As a transplanted Chicagoan, there is a lot to be said about snow days, big kitchens, and weekends at
Grandmother's house. Judy learned to bake during those hot, humid summers and cold, windy winters-a love she brought to California at age 10 and satisfied with summer school classes in gourmet cooking the rustic way- the school was being remodeled and had no running water. A sympathetic neighbor gave nine budding epicureans water privileges every day for six weeks.
Judy graduated Beverly Hills High School with six months to spare and traveled Europe and the Middle East with a friend and the indispensable traveling companion of the 70s, "Europe on $5 a Day." They learned a lot about foreign cuisines and eating inexpensively as the locals do.

She graduated UCLA with a bachelor's degree in art history and emphasis on drawing, painting, and sculpting. Cooking became an extension of the Arts. Judy spent five years on staff in art conservation at the J. Paul Getty Villa before taking a master's degree in education at the College of William & Mary in Virginia. There she experimented with southern cuisine.

When Judy returned to California, she became a fundraising executive on the staffs of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Southwest Museum, City of Hope, and UCLA. She mixed creative and successful major gift solicitation with lavish home entertaining and colorful events.
