The instructor was: I did not expect her to be entertaining, so I was not disappointed. I think she is a good teacher and encouraged people to ask questions. i also thought she did a very good job of handling so many things at the same time.
The atmosphere was: The working space and set up was really nice. People were pleasant.
Complexity of the recipes: I think it is hard when there is a variety of skill level involved. But, I noticed that the chef was more than willing to show knife skills and give as much information regarding the recipes as possible. I think the recipes were okay. But the stew recipe was just not good at all, so that was a disappointment. Thank goodness the chef ADDED the biscuit recipe so that there was something of substance to eat. It would be a sad thing to walk away hungry.
The food was: The soup recipe was good, and the chile recipe okay. A meat chile would have been better. THe stew was really flavorless and boring. The corn bread was tasty. This is probably the only recipe I will reproduce on my own. But I was seriously disappointed that there was NO dessert. And this is the first cooking class I have attended where so LITTLE wine was involved in drinking with the food, or with the lesson.
The skills you learned were: As I mentioned earlier, I was not surprised by the level of the class. There were tidbits that I picked up here and there and that always makes it interesting. I honestly think that the downfall of the class was the recipes and not anything else.
I enjoyed myself and had fun: I enjoy being in the kitchen and cooking and watching those better than myself cook, so it was fine. I think my partner was more disappointed than I was as when I said STEW, he ( and I ) thought MEAT. This was a rather overly expensive class considering the ingredients. Squash, corn, apples, tomatoes, onions, garlic,. There was a LITTLE sausage.
