Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do to prepare for my upcoming class?
I’m thinking about signing up, but have a few questions…
Of course! We’re thrilled that you’re thinking about coming to cook with us in a class. First, please know that we supply all of the food, the equipment (including knives!), professional instruction and a stockpot full of fun. Here are some of the common questions we get all the time:
What do I bring: Bring yourself! We supply the recipes, a pen for notes, an apron, work towel and all of the equipment needed. PLEASE be sure that you have closed toed shoes with no heels. Try to make them as comfortable as possible!
Knives: We supply all the knives needed for class, including our knife skills classes. Unless noted in the class description, please do not bring home equipment to class.
Jewelry: As always, we ask that you minimize the amount of jewelry worn in the cooking classes. Most of our classes are hands-on and we will ask you to remove jewelry from time to time.
Allergies & Dietary Restrictions: We work hard to accommodate most allergy restrictions when we are notified at least 1 week in advance of the class. We respect dietary restrictions and ask that you call if there is ANY question with regard to the menu 1 week in advance. Requests the day of the cooking class are very difficult to accommodate and we ask for your understanding if they are not able to be met. Please contact us by calling 216.342.4840.

How long are the classes?
Our hands-on classes are typically around 3 hours in duration. We offer a 10-15 minute break during the class. Stools are provided during class at all work stations! Our demonstration classes are typically around 1.5 hours in duration. We ask for your understanding if classes run long!
-
Are your classes accredited or applicable to any programs?
The Chubby Cook is purely a recreational cooking school. Our classes are designed to educate and have fun at the same time. There are several accredited schools in the area, please give us a call and we can direct you to them as well!
-
Menu Items- What if they are changed?
We reserve the right to substitute ingredients and menu items. We absolutely will make every effort to remain true to our advertised menu, but occasionally items may not be available due to growing conditions or lack of supply through other channels. We appreciate your understanding and are confident that you will enjoy the substitution as well!
-
Wait Lists- How do they work?
When a class is sold out, you can still sign up for the class on the wait list. At this point in the process, you will NOT be charged! In the event that a seat opens up, you will receive an e-mail generated by our online reservation system. All wait list seats are first-come, first-served. Please Note: telephone reservations without an e-mail address will not receive wait list notification.

Cancellations (Bad Weather, Teacher, Classes Undersold)
Bad Weather: We live in Cleveland and all know that bad weather happens. We will make a determination to cancel class no later than 2 hours prior to a class and will make every attempt to notify you by phone at the phone number you provided us upon registration. If we are not able to speak with you in person, we will leave a message. We encourage you to call us or email us if in doubt. Unless you hear from us at the phone number provided to us at registration, the class will be held. It is important to provide us with accurate contact phone numbers and email addresses when you register. We are concerned for everyone’s safety and will only decide to hold a class if we determine that the roads are safe. As long as the instructor and class assistants can make it to the school the class will be held. There are no refunds, credits, transfers or exchanges because of bad weather providing the school is open with class running. Plan to leave home early, and please travel carefully. Any classes that are canceled will be rescheduled or you will be given a full refund.
Teacher Cancellation: From time to time, our Instructors are unavailable due to illness or other unforeseeable circumstances. If a suitable replacement can not be found, we will make every attempt to notify you by phone at the number you provided us upon registration. If we are not able to speak with you in person, we will leave a message and send an e-mail. Classes that are cancelled will either be refunded or a class credit will be given if it is rescheduled.
Class Undersold: Occasionally there are not enough seats sold to run a class. As with other cancellations, we will work hard to contact you to notify you that the class will not be running. To avoid this happening, register early to ensure the class runs! Classes that are cancelled will either be refunded or a class credit will be given if it is rescheduled.
Customer Cancellation Policy: By registering, you are committing to the class. Please remember that we commit to our Instructors and purchase food based on your registration. REQUESTS FOR REFUNDS OR TRANSFERS MUST BE MADE ONE (1) WEEK PRIOR TO CLASS TIME! Substitutions are perfectly acceptable- please just call use at 216-342-4840 to let us know who will be coming! No cancellations will be accepted after the cancellation deadline. Please remember that you may only cancel if it is more than 7 days prior to the class, or within a month of a visiting guest chef class, or within two weeks if you booked for 3 or more people.

How do I cancel a class?
You must be signed into your online account. Click on "My Classes" on the left-hand menu. Your list of classes will appear. Click on the cancel button to the right of any class you wish to cancel. If you wish to cancel more than 1 seat, adjust the number of seats to be cancelled before clicking on the cancel button. If there is no cancel button to the right of the class, this could indicate that you are no longer eligible to cancel from the class. (See Cancellation policy).
